Joseph Leary was born 1760 in DE. He was the son of James Leary and Miss Owens. He married Sarah Redgrave dau. of Abraham Redgrave d. 1804 and Frances Smith on Sep 7, 1801. He had at least six children: George B., Julia, James S., Basil and others. He died 1821 in Kent Co, MD. His patriotic service included MS - Private in MD Mil in Kent Co, MD. He served as Private in Kent Co MD under Capt. John Day in 1778 in 6th Comp., 27th Batt. and Paying 1783 Supply Tax in 5th Dist. Kent Co MD. Buried at unknown location
