Qualifying Service Description:

February 1776, served as a Private in the company of Captain David Scott of the Virginia Continental Line, commanded by Colonel John Gibson. Term of three years

Anthony Coon was born on 4 March 1755 in Philadelphia, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph Coon, who also served during the Revolutionary War. He was married in about 1785 to Anne Nancy Hellen. Together they had the following known children:

  • Mary "Polly" was born in 1782 and married Robert John Davis.
  • Isaac was born on 16 November 1786 and married Sarah Davis.
  • Jacob E. was born in about 1790 and married Sarah Jane Crouch.
  • Abraham was born on 28 February 1794 and married Rhoda Sharp.
  • Samuel was born on 13 February 1796 and married Margaret Pettit.
  • Nancy was born in May 1797 and married Aaron Pettit.
  • Benjamin was born on 12 October 1800 and married Mary Elizabeth Smith.
  • William was born on 6 June 1806 and married Amelia Davis.

Anthony served three years as a Private with the 13th Regiment of Virginia Regulars under Captain David Scott's Company, a Continental establishment commanded by Colonel John Gibson.

The Patriot died in about 1835 and is buried near Worthington, Marion County, West Virginia.
