Author: Timothy Edward Peterman

James Weeks was born Mar. 1749 in Westmoreland Co., Virginia, the son of William and Mary (Alderson) Weeks, and grandson of Joseph and Sarah (Blagdon) Weeks and George and Sarah (Osborn) Alderson.

During the Revolutionary War, he enlisted in Stafford Co., Virginia militia in Aug. 1776. He was a Private in the company of Captain Prymm commanded by Colonel Garrard in 1778.  He also served as a Sergeant in the company of Captain Prymm in 1781.

 

In about 1770, he married Elizabeth Lunsford (born about 1755 and died before 1834), daughter of Rowley and Joanna (Sturdy) Lunsford. Children named in his Will:

  1. Miney (1771-1846)
  2. Mary (-before 1833)
  3. Thomas (1776-before 1833)
  4. Visa [Melcinia Victoria] (1777-1826)
  5. Lewis (1779-1849)
  6. Elizabeth (ca 1780/81-after 1833)
  7. Ann (1774/92-after 1833)
  8. Sarah (ca 1780/89-after 1833)
  9. Margaret (1780/89-after 1833)
  10. Mariah (1789-1858)
  11. William L[unsford] (1794-1875)
  12. Susan (1790/99-after 1833).

Notable descendants include lawman, Wyatt Earp.

He moved to what became Spencer Co., Kntucky in the 1810s. He wrote his Will on Feb. 25, 1833 and it was proven in court on Sep. 1, 1834 in Spencer Co., Kentucky.
