Christian Spangler, Sr. was born in 1728 at Prussia or Germany. He married Anna Maria about 1754. He took an Oath of Allegiance, 26 June 1770, of record at Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
He appeared as a private in the company of Captain John Ritter of the Third Battalion of the Northampton County Militia under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Kern, in a class roll dated 1781. He was assigned to the eighth class of the company.
Christian Spangler, Sr. also provided Patriotic Service by paying the 1781 Supply Tax at Moore Township.
The Last Will and Testament of Christian Spangler, Sr., of record at Estate 4070, Centre County, Pennsylvania, 27 June 1800. In the Will, he names his wife, Anna Maria, and children George Christian, Margareth wife of Francis Gramley, John Michael, John Henry, John Christopher, John, John George, George Peter, Susanna and Anna Maria.
Christian Spangler, Sr., died in January 1802 at his homestead at Miles Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, survived by his wife and children. He was laid to rest at the Union Cemetery, also known as the Saint Peter’s Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery, at Rebersburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
