Qualifying Service Description:
  1. Thomas Downs served as a private during several tours in the militia, under Captains Neal Morrison, John Springs, and Richard Simmons. He served under Colonels Moore, William Washington, and Hagens. He served in the cavalry under Captain John Harris and Major Davie. Later he served as a Lieutenant and received a commission from General Rutherford.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format.
