John “Henry” [or Johannes Heinrich] Hoover [Huber] was Christened on 22 March 1764 in Middletown, Frederick, Maryland, the son of John Heinrich "Henry" and Maria Gertraud or Gertraut (Barrick/Berg) Hoover. His father had previously emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1749. Upon the death of his father, John Henry returned to Germany to settle his affairs and returned with his wife, John Hoover, his sister Juliana, and other family members in 1766/1767. They eventually settled in the area of Stephensburg, Virginia, on land they acquired from the Kerns.
It is thought that he is the man of the same name who was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant, Shenandoah Militia, on 28 February 1782. However, caution should be used, as he was 17 at the time of the commission. This service likely belonged to an older man.
During his marriage to Elisabeth Erehart. She died in 1798. Their known children were:
Ann Elizabeth was born in 1789 and married Carter Williamson.
Susanna was born in 1790
Henry was born about 1792 and married Nancy Ritter.
After Elizabeth’s death, he married Maryn Martin on 28 March 1799, by Reverence Christian Streit in Frederick County, Virginia.
The Patriot died on 3 March 1815, 25 days before his father John "Henry" Hoover. As John had failed to provide for his wife by his death, John "Henry" Hoover had provided for her in his remaining days by willing her a house with three acres. Mary Survived till 1844, and is buried next to John Hoover.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
