Author: Barry Frederick Schwoerer

John Campbell was probably born in Virginia, parents not determined.

On 28 December 1794, he married Elizabeth Bezer/Beasor/Beazor1, daughter of John Bezer/Beasor/Beazor, a Quaker who was in Loudoun County by 1770.2 The couple had at least six children: Elizabeth, Delilah, James, Asapha (Asa), John, and Robert.

John farmed land in the northeast section of Loudoun County in what is known as the 2nd Battalion for tax purposes. This section of land encompasses the villages of Hillsboro and Purcellville. It is located in what is known as the "Gap" in the Short Hill and the "Valley between the Hills," a valley between the Blue Ridge and the Short Hill from Hillsboro to Harpers Ferry. John paid the Loudoun County Virginia 1783 Personal Property tax in the 2nd Battalion. This tax list includes the sons of David Potts, founder of the Potts Graveyard.

The fact that John's wife was the daughter of a Quaker and David Potts was a Quaker helps explain why the couple is buried at Old Potts Graveyard. John left a will signed on 31 May 1838 and proved 13 August 1838. In the will, he identified his children.3

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
