Thomas Tunstall Jr. was born in Virginia; the date is unrecorded.
Thomas enlisted in the Revolutionary War in January 1777 as a musician in the 14th Virginia Regiment in Captain Thomas Thweatt’s Company, commanded by Colonel Charles Lewis. Thomas served various roles in the same company in 1777 as seen on muster rolls. He served as a drummer, private, artillery, and captain as soon as October of the same year. Thomas was taken prisoner of war at the Battle of Germantown in October 1777 and held captive until April 1779. The 14th Virginia Regiment in March 1778 has Thomas’ name listed on the roll under the same captain as stated before, but under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Abraham Buford. After his release from being a prisoner of war, he joined the 10th Virginia Regiment as a private under Captains Sameul Jordan Cabell and John Marks, commanded by Colonel William Davies. Thomas was promoted to Sergeant Major in August 1779 of the same regiment, and he is last found on muster rolls in November 1779.1 On 15 October 1783, Thomas was given a Virginia Land-Office Military Warrant for his services during the war that entitled him to 200 hundred acres of land.2
Thomas is found on the 1795 Franklin County, Kentucky Tax List.3 He wrote his last will in Franklin County, Kentucky, naming his wife, Milly, and son, Henry. Thomas’ will was produced in open court proving him to be deceased before 18 June 1810, in Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky.4
Thomas is buried in the Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky.5

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
