Johann Georg Wilhelm Schaeffer was reportedly born in 1724 in Ilsfeld, Württemberg.1

Johann Georg (George) Schaeffer was married to Maria (possibly Maria Magdalena), who was born around 1728; they married in 1748.2

The DAR record for George Shaffer (1724-1810) lists his Patriotic Service as “furnished beef 280 lbs at 4 shellings.”3 Payment for goods and services is also recorded in the official records of Loudoun County.4 Examination of a copy of the original record shows Entry 156 on the page for 9 April 1782: “George Shaffer for 280 (ditto: Beef at 4 [illegible]).”

George Schaeffer also paid the Supply Tax in 1783.5

His son John was born 1765 at Lovettsville, died 1822.6 His son’s wife was Anna Catharina Marckert; they were married on 4 May 1787 at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, in what is now Lovettsville, Loudoun County, Virginia.7

Georg Schafer was one of 25 signers of the Articles (Constitution) of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church on 25 March 1786.8 He also regularly appears as Georg Schäfer or Schäffer on the church communicant lists, which begin in 1784.9

The church burial register lists “Old Georg Schäffer, 86 years, less (illegible)” with a burial date of 1 December 1810.10 This would yield a calculated birth date of sometime in 1724.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
