He was credited with military service in South Carolina for 44 days starting on 23 February 1779 as a Private under Colonel Ely Kershaw, for 40 days in October 1779 as a horseman under Colonel John Marshall, for 30 days starting in August 1781 as a Private in Colonel Kimball’s Regiment of Camden District Light Horse Militia, for 43 days beginning on 10 February 1782 as a Lieutenant in Colonel John Marshall’s Regiment of Camden District Militia, and again for 28 days starting on 15 August 1782 as a Lieutenant in that Regiment.

On 18 February 1785, Richmond was granted 100 acres of land in Lancaster County, South Carolina, on a branch of Lick Creek and the waters of Lynches Creek. On 5 April 1820, he was found living on Flat Creek and the waters of Lynches Creek, adjoining the 48 acres of land granted to Needham Catoe.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
