Jean Baltazar Vicner/Wickner

Jean Baltazar Vicner/Wickner, was born 5 January 1740, a son of Henry Nicolas Wickner  and Anne Barbe Conrad, at the German Coast of Louisiana, Destrehan, Saint Charles Parish, according to Sacramental Records of the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Vol. 1, 1718-1750.  Jean Baltazar married Marie Madeleine Triche about 1768 at Louisiana.

A 1770 Census shows Jean Baltazar and his family living on the left bank at Saint John the Baptist Parish of Louisiana, producing 12 quarts of rice and 60 quarts of corn.  A Louisiana Report of 1778 shows he was willing to provide 15 quarts of rice to the war effort.  A list of 1 June 1778, further shows Jean Baltazar serving in the Second Company of the German Coast Volunteer Militia, under the overall command of General Bernardo de Gálvez.  This militia company participated at least in campaigns against the British at Louisiana and was included in the initial force of 600 men assembled by Gálvez in August 1779.  They marched more than 100 miles to challenge the British at Fort Bute of Manchac, 7 September 1779, and the British fort at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 21 September 1779.

Jean Baltazar Vicner/Wickner died 2 October 1816 at Saint John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
