Author: Dale Edward Corey

Samuel Ege was born 22 January 1742 at Richmond, Virginia, a son of Johann Jacob Ege (1713-1795) and Maria Dorothea Scheerer (1724-1803).  Jacob immigrated to the colonies in 1738, where he married Maria in 1740.  He settled at Richmond, Virginia, where he took up several lots on the northern side of Main Street.  He built his house between Nineteenth and Twentieth Streets in 1738-1739.  This building has been designated as "The Old Stone House."  The house was next owned by Samuel.  During the Revolutionary War, Samuel was commissary in the American Army, stationed at Richmond.  He further provided horses and a wagon for the cause.  He married Elizabeth Walker in May 1774.  She was born at Lunenburg, Virginia.  She was orphaned at birth and raised by her uncle by marriage, Colonel Thomas Prosser, at Brookfield, near Richmond.  Samuel and Elizabeth had the following children:  Elizabeth, Jacob Galt, Samuel H., Sarah, John, Mary and Ann Elizabeth.  Samuel died 11 February 1801 at Richmond and was buried at the St John's Episcopal Church Cemetery.   Elizabeth died 8 January 1829 and was buried at Saint John's Episcopal Church.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
