Pierre Primeau or Primeaux was born in 1739 in Canada, the son of Claude and Angelique Primeau. He later relocated to Maryland and met his future wife, Suzanne Plante of Baltimore. They moved with the Acadians to Louisiana and were married in Opelousas on 4 July 1779.

The couple had several known children:

  • Victoire was born in 1773 and married Michel Connor.
  • Clara was born in 1774.
  • Donat was born on 7 March 1776 and married Marie Dubois.
  • Joseph was born on 9 March 1778 and married Marguerite George Albert.
  • Theodore was born on 1 June 1780.
  • Angelique was born on 1 October 1781.
  • Julien was born on 13 October 1784
  • Francois was born on 14 February 1787 and married Justine Baudoin.

Pierre served as a fusilier in the Opelousas Militia. His service in the Opelousas Militia Roll from 8 June 1777 is referenced on page 246 of Churchill’s Spanish Records. In this capacity, he served under Spanish Governor Bernardo de Galvez in the Battles of Fort Bute and Baton Rouge.

The Patriot died on 16 August 1790 and was buried in the nearby Yellow Fever Cemetery in Washington, Louisiana.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
