Valentine Derr and his wife Anna Marie appear to have migrated from Germany to Pennsylvania before moving to Rowan County, North Carolina, prior to the American Revolution, but certainly before 1774 when Land records prove that he bought land in Rowan County. They had at least two daughters:
Marie Susannah was born in 1767 in Berk County, Pennsylvania, and married Jacob Brougher.
Rosina Barbara was born in 1770 in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, and married Frederick Fisher.
A deed dated 10 February 1774, from Conrod Bullin and wife Mary to Valentine Derr (Tarr) for 220 acres (1/3 of 660-acre plot) for 124 pounds proc. All of Derr's property was inherited by daughters Susanna, the wife of Jacob Brougher, and Barbary, the wife of Frederick Fisher. The total 370 acres inherited was sold to Nicholas Linebarrier in one day on 11 December 1795, who then resold it to Brougher (117 ½ acres) and Fisher (252 ½ acres). Jacob Brougher sold his 117 acres on 6 September 1805 to Leonard Crosser.
Marie Susannah married Johann Jacob Brougher in about 1787. Rosina Barbara married Friederick Fisher on 30 Jan 1793 in Rowan County, North Carolina, ten months after her father's death. Evidence shows that his two son-in-laws, Frederick Fisher Jr. and Jacob Brougher, along with Jacob Eddinger, posted a Bond with the Probate Court concerning the Estate of Valentine Darr, deceased.
A Find-a-Grave Memorial note suggests that Jacob Brougher died in Nelson County, Kentucky, but there are no gravestones that confirm this or his wife's death. What is recorded shows Jacob Brougher's Estate, which was settled in 1815 in Rowan, North Carolina, and includes the names of four of his underage orphaned children: Susanna, Jacob, Frederick, and Valentine. Grave stones for Frederick Fisher Jr. and his wife Rosina B. provide physical evidence that they died and were buried at the Fouts-Robison Cemetery of Clark County, Indiana, where he died in 1818 and she died in 1833. Find-a-Grave notes that they had at least two sons, Jacob and Frederick.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
