Author: Christopher Paul Holmes

Michael Shoemaker was born in about 1756 in Elizabeth, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Bartholomew Shoemaker, one of six brothers who left the Alsace region of Germany and arrived in the colonies in 1749. 

He served in the Maryland Seventh Regiment and the German Battalion during the war. He was a Private in the company of Captain Henry Fister of the German Regiment of Maryland Continental Troops commanded by Colonel Nicholas Hussecker. He also served in the company of Captain Michael Bayer.

Michael was married to Eva Christina Wolff on 5 May 1782. Thier known children include a daughter Mary.

The Patriot died in Fayette City, Pennsylvania in 1801.
