Author: Mr. Ethan Allen Stewart Sr

Leverett Hubbard was born July 21, 1725, at Hartford, Connecticut, eldest son of John Hubbard and Elizabeth.  His father settled at New Haven, Connecticut, in 1776.  Leverett graduated from Yale in 1744, and a year after graduation, he went to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to familiarize himself with surgical and medical cases.  On his return to Connecticut, he started a practice in New Haven.  He married Sarah Whitehead, May 22, 1746.

In 1755, he left New Haven for Crown Point to head a Company of Volunteers.  Leverett was promoted in 1771 to Lieutenant Colonel in the Connecticut Militia.  Colonel Leverett Hubbard was the chairman for the elections of officers in the Second Company of the Governor’s Foot Guard, March 16, 1775.  Benedict Arnold was made captain.  In September 1776, he was appointed Examining Surgeon for the State of Connecticut.

Leverett Hubbard married Hester Robinson, February 13, 1771.

Hubbard was the first president of New Haven County Medical Association, from 1784-1791.  He was also a member of the Connecticut State Medical Society from 1792-1794.  In 1794, he was treating patients for Yellow Fever.  Leverett became exhausted from his work.  He went to Hartford, Connecticut, to regain his strength, but died there of Yellow Fever, October 1, 1794.  He left an estate worth over $27,000.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
