SAR Patriot Bio: William Nisbet (P-336661)
William Nisbet was born in 1734 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Thomas Nisbet and Jean Finney.
William Nisbet served as a private in the Cumberland County (Pennsylvania) Militia. He was part of the first call for troops of the 8th Battalion, 6th Company under Lt. Daniel Smith in October 1777. William later served in the 1st Battalion, 7th Company under Capt. John Woods in 1780, 2nd Company in 1781, and in the 8th Battalion, 3rd Company under Capt. James Poe in 1782.
William married Mary Elizabeth Irwin. They had 8 children together:

John J. Nisbet b. 20 Apr1780 in Pennsylvania
William spent much of his life as a farmer in western Pennsylvania. He was noted trying to homestead land in present day Kentucky in 1774. William Nisbet moved his family to south western Ohio at the behest of his longtime friend Col. Robert Patterson sometime after 1800. Mary Nisbet died in 1788 in Pennsylvania. William died on 7 Jun 1809 in Preble County, Ohio. He is buried in the Old Presbyterian Cemetery in New Lexington, Ohio.
