Jacob was born 1751 in Mount Jackson, Shenandoah, VA to John Penneywitt and Rosina Yeiser. He served as an Ensign in the 9th Military District in Dunmore County, VA. Took the oath as a Captain 31 Aug 1780 in the Shenandoah County Militia. He married Margaret Harpine, daughter of Philip and Mary Catherine Harpine in Shenandoah County on 30 Mar 1782. Jacob and Margaret had the following children: John (1783-1866), Catherine (1784-1857) & Anna Mary (1786-1869). He died 27 Jan 1813 in Shenandoah County, Virginia and was buried in the Old Pine Church Cemetery, Mount Jackson, Shenandoah, Virginia. Margaret died 15 May 1835 and was buried with Jacob in the Old Pine Church Cemetery.
