Author: Thomas Allen Whitefield Sr.

Michael Confer/Konfer was born in Germany, a son of Johann Henrich Confer and Maria Catharine Clott.  He married Anna Catharina Wagner (1739-1811) in 1757 at Berks County, Pennsylvania.  Their son, Johann Valentine Confer (1780-1862) moved west and settled in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and later in life lived and died at Pinegrove Township, Venango County.  Many generations of descendants his named their children “John Valentine” after him. 

Michael Confer/Konfer contributed money to the War of the Revolution by paying the Supply Tax in Brunswick Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania in 1780, 1781, 1782 and 1783. Also, in the year 1780, Michael Confer/Konfer was an assessor for the supply tax.

Michael Confer/Konfer appears in the 1779 and 1786 Pennsylvania Septennial Census in Brunswick Township, Berks County.  The 1790 U.S. Census of Brunswick and Manheim Townships, Berks County, the 1793 Pennsylvania Septennial Census of Manheim Township, Berks County and the 1810 U. S. Census of Pinegrove Township, Berks County.  His date and place of death and burial are not known.
