Author: Thomas Allen Whitefield Sr.

Hugh Brady, Sr. was born about 1709 at Ireland and immigrated to Delaware Colony about the year 1732 and to the Cumberland Valley (Cumberland County, Pennsylvania) between 1733 and 1738. He married Hannah McCormick (abt. 1709-aft. 1743) about 1730 in Cumberland County. Their known children are John born 1733 married Mary Quigley, Samuel born 1734 married Jane Simonton, Joseph born 1735 married Mary Carnahan, Hugh Jr. born 1738 married Jane Young, William born 1740 married Rebecca Fergusson, Margaret born 1742 married Archibald Hanna, James born 1743 married Rebecca Young, Mary born 1745 married Samuel Hanna, Ebenezer born 1750 married Jane Irwin.

While a resident of Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Hugh Brady, Sr. provided civil service during the Revolutionary War as a Collector of Lieutenants Accounts. This is documented in the Published Pennsylvania Archives, Series Three, Volume Six, pages 669-670.

Hugh Brady, Sr. died after 31 December 1779 at Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and was laid to rest at the Old Middlespring Cemetery at Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
