Johann Nickel Lang was born about 1702 in Miesau, Rheinland-Pfaltz, Germany, the son of Johannes and Anna Catharina (Bischoff) Lang. On January 4, 1724 in Miesau he married Maria Margareth Barth (1704-1725). She and their son Johan Adam both died in 1725. Nickel Lang married his second wife Eva Elisabetha Blum in Waldmohr on January 22, 1726. Together they had six children: Johann Caspar, Johann Nickel, Johannes, Maria Elisabetha, Anna Catharina and Johnn Jacob. ` Nickel Lang and his children arrived at the port of Philadelphia, PA on the ship “Harle”, September 1, 1736. His wife Eva Elisabetha died some time during the trip to America as may some of the children. In late 1736 Nickel Lang married his third wife Maria (maiden name unknown). Nickel settled in the Tulpehocken area of Lancaster County, PA which in 1752 became Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, PA. This area was on the frontier during the French & Indian War and some of Nickel’s neighbors lost their lives from Indian attacks. Nickel and Maria had five children: Anna Catherine, Maria Barbara, Ludwig, Tobias and Maria Margaretha. Nickel was a yeoman/farmer in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, PA and he probably died at his homestead around 1780. ` Nickel Lang paid the Supply Tax in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, PA in 1779. Two of his son-in-laws Herber Berger and Philip Klahr served in the Berks County Militia during the Revolutionary War.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
