Author: James Gray Chandler
Josiah Crews was born 27 Jul 1745 in Lunenburg, Virginia to Richard and Anne Crews, then married Elizabeth Jeter about 1765 in Virginia and had 9 children.

In 1777 he joined 6th Regiment VA Continental forces as a private to support the Revolution.

He was shown as living in Lynchburg, Campbell, Virginia in the 1810 & 1820 census.In 1830 census, he owned 15 slaves and 7 free colored persons.

His Will was prepared on 04 Nov 1825 in Campbell Co., VA, where he gave 100 Ac. to his daughter, Elizabeth, and the remainder of his estate was to be divided in 9 equal parts.

He died on 27 Jul 1832 in Campbell Cty, Virginia. When his estate was setted in August 1832, it was worth $10,222.
