Author: Michael B. Gunn
Born in 1748. He served as a Private on the Pennsylvania Line, enlisting in December, 1775 in Captain Brisby’s Company under Colonel Arthur St. Clair’s 2nd PA Regiment. He was honorably discharged at Philadelphia in April or May of 1777. He married Jane___ in 1793; children: . Was living in Lancaster County, PA at time of enlistment. In 1820 he was living in Goshen Township, Belmont County, and in 1830 was living in Richland Township, Belmont County, OH. His occupation was weaver. He died in September, 1833 and is buried at Union Cemetery, 201 Maple Avenue, St. Clairsville, Belmony County, OH 43950. Plot: North End of the Cem on the rd that runs IN FRONT of huge masoslium & in a line on that road toward the west end w/ other soldiers next to the "To The Glory Of God" marker that's there for the establishment of the cemetery. Author: Michael B. Gunn
Born in 1748. He served as a Private in the Pennsylvania Line, enlisting in December 1775 in Captain Brisby’s Company of Colonel Arthur St Clair’s 2nd PA Regiment verified in his affidavit dated July 28, 1820. He married Jane__; children: . Widow was pensioned Ref. W2681, after application of October 24, 1850. Alexander’s occupation was that of a weaver. He lived in Lancaster, PA at tome of enlistment, but by 1820 was living in Goshen Township, Belmont Co., OH and in Richland Twp., Belmont Co., in 1830.
He died in September, 1833 and buried at Saint Clairsville Union Cemetery, 201 Maple Avenue, Saint Clairsville, Belmont County, OH 43950. Plot: North End of the Cemetery on the road that runs IN FRONT of huge mausoleum & in a line on that road toward the west end with other soldiers next to the "To The Glory Of God" marker that's there for re the establishment of the cemetery. Cemetery notes and/or description: Established: 1871 Original Plat: 1797. Originally the Richland Cemetery and Presbyterian Church; founded in 1798. This is a large historic cemetery of forty seven acres. Unfortunately, the early records were destroyed in a fire. Belmont County has four Union Cemeteries.
