Author: Edward Lary
Miles Weed served as a Private in Connecticut during the war for American independence. He appears on the Pay Roll for Captain Nathaniel Webb’s Company, Colonel David Waterbury’s Regiment in Stamford, for a Long Island (NY) expedition in Jan 1776. He also appears on the Pay Roll for Captain Nathaniel Webb’s Company, Colonel John Mead’s Regiment in Stamford, for an expedition to New York in Aug 1776.

Miles Weed (Jr) was born in Stamford, CT on 08 Apr 1745. He was the son of Miles Weed and Joanna Weed, both also born in Stamford. Miles (Jr) married Mary Gray on 22 Mar 1769 in the First Congregational Church of Stamford. Mary was born in Stamford on 18 Nov 1747. Together Miles and Mary raised eight children, five boys and three girls, all born in Stamford.

An interesting footnote to this family involves their son John Sadler Weed IV, who was born in 1771. John married Sally Munday Dibble in Stamford on 2 Dec 1798. Sally’s father, Fyler Dibble of Stamford, was a Loyalist. Fyler took his family and fled to St. Johns, New Brunswick, Canada along with several other Connecticut loyalists. He died there on 6 May 1784.

Mary Weed died on 9 Jun 1786 in Stamford. After Mary’s death Miles married 2nd his second cousin Hannah Scofield in Stamford on 14 Mar 1788. Miles Weed died in Stamford on 2 Jan 1810. Hannah is thought to have died in about 1825. None of their burial locations is known.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
