Author: Lewis Gregory LINDSLY
Leonard Perilloux was a Sargent in the Louisiana German Coast Militia under Captain Don Carlos Brazcauc (Brosseaux) and the overall command of Governor General Bernardo de Galvez during the American Revolution. It is well documented in Churchill’s book and others that the German Coast Militia participated in the Battles of Baton Rouge and Bayou Manchac and the recently discovered 1778 Germ. Coast Militia list found by Judy Riffel provided the proof for individual patriots including Leonard Perilloux.

Leonard was born in Louisiana ca. 1755 to Pierre Jacques Perilloux, who was born in Soual Tarne, France and Marie Anne Barbe who was born in Basse-Normandie, France. The parents of Leonard were married in Haute-Garonne, France 17 Jan 1753. He was their first child of at least seven.
Leonard married Veronique Fresne Traeger 20 Aug 1775 in St. John the Baptist Parish, LA. She was born in St. John the Baptist Parish about 1758. Leonard and Veronique had at least five children, three girls and two boys. Louis, their last son, was born 24 Dec 1784. He is our lineal ancestor and records indicate he served in the War of 1812. Louis and his wife Marie had seven children who lived to adulthood so there are likely many Perilloux descendants from Leonard.
After the Death of Veronique, Leonard Married Eve Jacob in 1806 and they had two children.

Leonard died at age 58 on 15 Oct 1813 in Lions, St. John the Baptist Parish. A property map of St. John Parish dated 1804-1812 indicates he owned property consisting of a tract of land in the area still called Lions which is up the Mississippi from New Orleans on the Right Ascending bank at a location on the River across and up river of the St. John the Baptist church. The property makes up a large part of the Marathon Oil Refinery today. He was likely buried at that St. John Church, but his grave was likely take by the Mississippi Poché Crevasse in 1821.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
