When Edward Burton was born in 1755 in North Carolina, his father, Benjamin, was 59 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 59. He had three sons and five daughters with Elizabeth including Edward, William, Dicey, Sarah, Elizabeth, Biddy and Amy.
He died on July 14, 1826, in Iredell County, North Carolina, at the age of 71. He is buried in the Snow Creek Methodist Church Cemetery, northern Iredell County. The church is on Highway #115, ten miles north of Statesville. The grave is unmarked.
7/14/1826: Will of Edward Burton of Iredell Co. NC, signed 7/14/1826, was proved ? to my wife Elizabeth Burton all my household and kitchen furniture, also all my cattle of the cow kind with a good support from the proceeds of the plantation during her widowhood; to my daughters Rhoda Burton, Polley Robey and Aney Martin. Likewise to my five youngest daughters namely Elizabeth Ellis, Dicey Templeton, Peggy Patterson, Sally McGuire, Biddy Dunkin, $80 to be equally divided among them which is to be paid either in money or property by my executor in four years from my death. To my sons Edward Burton all my stock of hogs and sheep, and to my son William Burton 120 acres on West side of my spring branch joining James Sharpe corner, across the branch, ... to a marked post oak outside the plantation of the sd Witches lines for compliment. The balance of my land to my son Edward Burton. Appoint wife Elizabeth Burton and Uriah Patterson execs. signed Edward Burton Wit: Peter Claywell jurat, Thomas M. Saunders.

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
