Peter Schmidt, Sr. was born June 3, 1725 in Germany. He married Maria Elizabeth Walborn in the mid 1740’s. They were the parents of ten children, but the names of only three are known. They are Catharina, David and Peter. He was a farmer his entire adult life in Pine Grove Twp., Berks County, PA. Schuylkill County was formed out of Berks County in late 1811. Shortly after Schuylkill County was formed Peter died at his homestead on April 3, 1812 in Pine Grove Twp. He is buried at Salem “Hetzel’s Church Cemetery, Washington Twp., Schuylkill County, PA. Peter served as a Court Martial Man in Capt. Michael Bretz’s Company, Berks County Militia. Peter also paid the Supply Tax in Pine Grove Twp., Berks County, PA in the years 1779, 1780 and 1781.
