Author: John Robinson Hundley III
Johann Wilhelm Schwenk was born in 1742 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the son of German immigrants Johann Michael Schwenk and Maria Elizabeth Küstner. He married Anna Maria "Mary" Klein about 1765 in Philadelphia and later changed his name to William Swink. He was a blacksmith by trade and moved first to King Georges County, Maryland and then to Fairfax County, Virginia. William Swink paid the 1783 Virginia Personal Property Tax which supported the American Revolution. His daughter Elizabeth married their neighbor John Anderson Jr. who
served as a soldier in the Revolution. William Swink Sr. died in 1822 in Fairfax County, Virginia.
