John Parker (bef 1760-1838)
John Parker was born before 1760 as the son of John Parker of Bladen County, NC. He married to Rhoda Bedsole. He served as a Private in the NC Militia. He enlisted in February 1776 signing up for one year and fourteen days. He was granted a pension on Feb 4, 1833 for his exemplary service S#10856. In his own words he said that he entered the service in the 2nd year of the Revolutionary War, in February or March 1777, as a Private, for one month in a Company of Bladen Militia, under the command of Captain William Ellis, and Lieutenant James Isham. The Company rendezvoused at Singletary's Lake in said County, marched thence to Rockfish Creek in Bladen (now Cumberland) County - having crossed the Cape Fear River at one SylvanusWilson's, for the purpose of meeting the Tories. While in Captain Ellis's Company on the expeditions above detailed, he was in actual service, 3 months. He volunteered on an expedition to Wilmington, for the purpose of protecting that place from the Tories, and British, who had arrived in the waters of the Cape Fear. He enlisted at the latter place, in the Continental Service, for a service of 6 months in a Company commanded by Captain Griffith J. McRee. The Company remained during the period of his enlistment at Wilmington & its vicinity, and sometimes at the Old Fort below Wilmington. He remained in service 7 months and 14 days, owing to the absence of Captain McRee in Bladen County, on account of sickness; after the return of Captain McRee he received a discharge in writing. He died July 7. 1838. The children of John Parker and Rhoda Bedsole are: Simon Peter Parker born 1786 Beaverdam Township, NC died Elba, AL Coffee County, AL married Francis Barlow Hall Easter Parker born 1788 in Sampson County, NC died 1880 Elba, Coffee County, AL; Daniel Parker born 1790 in Sampson County, NC died 1850 NC Alfred Parker born 1805 Sampson County, NC; Thomas R Parker born in 1817 Sampson County, NC died 1880 Cedar Creek Township NC married Charity Bedsole; and Sally Parker unknown birth death. Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
