Author: Matthew John Barlow, Jr
William White was born in Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia, on December 22, 1750. His occupation is unknown. He married Dorothy Davis on February 3, 1775. They had seven children: Absalom, born October 29, 1777 and died December 17, 1854; Francis, born November 16, 1779; Henry, born c. 1784 and died c. 1840; Elizabeth Lee, born November 29, 1786; Rosey, born October 30, 1790 and died January 7, 1874; Isaac, born September 16, 1792 and William, b. September 20, 1794.

William served in the American Revolution at various times from 1776 to 1781 as a private in the Virginia Militia under Captains Plummer, Carey, and Gayle. He was engaged in various skirmishes at New Point and White’s Neck, Virginia. In 1781 William fought in a battle at Gloucester Court House, Virginia, and the surrounding area. His wife, Dorothy, applied for a pension W18396 on the 10th day of October 1836. She stated, “I often heard him speak of firing at the British…” He died in 1806 in Mathews County, Virginia. His place of burial is unknown.

William had two brothers John and Edward who served in the American Revolution. John served as a private in the Virginia Militia. Edward served as a private in the 1st Virginia Regiment.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
