Author: William Regli
David Knipe is the son of another Patriot, Johannes Kneip. He was born October 3, 1761 in Gwynedd Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He married Anna Maria Raker on May 5, 1789 in St. Peters Lutheran Church in North Wales, Pennsylvania. She was born October 3, 1767 in Philadelphia.

David Knipe was in the revolutionary war in Philadelphia County. He was in the 1st Battalion, 4th Company under Captain Stephen Bloom. The record of his absentee return can found in ARAIS which shows his return on May 21, 1781.


They lived their lives in Towamencin Township which is in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. They had nine children- John Reid, Hannah, David R, Daniel, Conrad, Catharine Raker, Elizabeth, Jacob and William.


David Knipe died on September 27, 1806 in North Wales, Pennsylvania and his wife, Anna, died in April 10, 1850. They are both buried in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery in North Wales.

Humbly Shewiths

That your petitioners said father lately died intestate leaving a widow to wit Mary since intermarried with George Shive and issue nine children to wit your petitioner, Hannah, wife of William Burney, David, Conrad, Daniel, Catharine, Elizabeth, Jacob and William- The last named of whom are still in their minority and that the said intestate died seized in his demesne as of fee of and in certain messuage and one hundred and twenty five acres of land be the same more or less with the appurtenances situate in the township of Gwynedd and County aforesaid adjoining lands of Andrew Layman, John Summer, brothers- your petitioner therefore humbly prays your Honour to award an request to make partition of the premises aforesaid to and among the children and representatives of the said intestate in such manner and in such proportions as by the laws of this Commonweal this directed if such partition can be made without prejudice to or spoiling the whole but if such partition cannot be made thereof as aforesaid their value and appraise the same and make report of their proceeding herein according to laws and he will pray.
