Author: James Bruce Battles

Aaron Allen was born on 11 December 1766 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, the son of William Allen and his wife, Mary Osgood.

Aaron was only 13 and a half years old when he enlisted as a Private in Captain Able Mason’s Company of Colonel Jacob Davis’ Regiment of the Massachusetts Militia on 30 July 1780. He was discharged on 7 August 1780 and served twelve days. The Massachusetts Militia was sent to Tiverton, Rhode Island, to ensure that British and Loyalist troops did not reoccupy parts of Rhode Island after British General Clinton withdrew his forces from Rhode Island for the 1780 British invasion of South Carolina.

After the end of the Revolutionary War, Aaron moved to Cumberland County to the town of New Gloucester in northwestern Massachusetts, which is now part of the state of Maine. Here he married Martha Prince on 27 August 1797.

He married Martha Prince on 27 August 1797 in New Gloucester, Cumberland, Maine. She was born on 7 July 1773, in New Gloucester, Cumberland, Maine. She died in 1855. Together he and Martha had six children, three boys, and three girls.

Aaron Allen and Martha Prince had the following children:

  1. Aaron Allen was born in 1797 in New Gloucester, Cumberland, Maine. He died on 27 August 1825 in Cumberland, Maine.
  2. Abigail Allen was born on 25 November 1797 in New Gloucester, Cumberland County, Maine, and died on 8 January 1882 in Mayfield, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. She married Rufus Mapes, son of Seth Mapes and Julia Smith, in 1816 in New York. He was born on 3 April 1795 in Seneca, Ontario County, New York, and died on 8 March 1874 in Mayfield, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
  3. Martha Allen was born on 21 October 1799 in New Gloucester, Cumberland, Maine.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
