In October 1777, David Adkins swore allegiance to America and begun the first of two 18 month enlistments. He first served in the company of Capt. John Walker under the Regimental Command of Col. George Washington. He was discharged in Camden Town, South Carolina and reenlisted 3 days later, this time in the company of Capt. David Laird. He was discharged in late 1780 in Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina. Once home, he continued to serve in the Henry Co., Virginia Militia.
David Adkins was born in 1754 in Snow, Lunenberg, Virginia; he was the first child of Mary Adkins and grandson of William Adkins of Henrico, Virginia. He died in 1832 in Louisa, Lawrence, Kentucky, USA
