Author: Eric Henry Troutman

Sebastian Morian, aka Bastian, was born about June 1724 in Manubach, Palatinate, Germany. He was the oldest child of Adam & Susanna Elizabeth (Hauss) Morian. The Morian family arrived at the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, aboard the ship Phoenix on 20 October 1744. Adam Morian bought 128 acres in Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1745. Adam Morian died in August of 1775 in Cumru Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, at the homestead of his son Sebastian.

Sebastian married Eve Weiler before 1751. Sebastian was the father of five children:

  1. Jacob.
  2. Elisabeth.
  3. Mary.
  4. Catharina.
  5. Maria Eva.

He took the Oath of Allegiance to the state of Pennsylvania on 9 July 1777 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Most of Sebastian's descendants now spell the family name Morgan.

Sebastian owned 104 acres in Robeson Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, and 173 acres in Cumru Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. His homestead in Cumru Township was along the Schuylkill River about two miles south of what is today the city of Reading. He was a farmer his entire life in Cumru Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, and he died at his homestead in the winter of 1783. He was survived by his widow Eve Morian. The place of burial for Sebastian and Eve Morian is unknown.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
