Author: John Woodward Patterson III
EDWARD GATER was born in 1745 and died in 1811 in Wheeling, Ohio County, (West) Virginia. He married NANCY CORD who was born 1743 and also died in 1811. Edward and Nancy are buried at the Old Stone Church Cemetery, Elm Grove, West Virginia.
Children of Edward and Nancy Cord Gater.
i. Mary Polly Gater married Reuben Merchant.
ii. Nancy Ann Gater married Congressman Daniel Steenrod. He m. (2) Nancy McClure.
Edward Gater served as a Private 7th Class in the 3rd Battalion of the Washington County, Pennsylvania Militia in Captain Andrew Swearingen’s Company.
