Qualifying Service Description:

Private in Capt. Pettibone's Company, Col. Ward's Connecticut Regiment.  Enlisted for 1 year 1776, and summer of 1778 plus 6 mos in Militia. He was engaged at the Battles of Trenton, Bordentown, Princeton, and White Plains.

The cemetery is located behind the First Congregation Church (United Church of Christ) on the east side of East Main Street (Ohio State Route 85) about 150 feet from its intersection with Mill Street.

Seth Hillyer: Seth Hillyer was born on August 16th 1756 in Granby CT. His father was Nathaniel Hillyer.

He enlisted in 1776 for one year, in 1778, and also a 6 month term in the Militia. His unit was engaged at Trenton, Bordentown, Princeton and White Plains.

He married Miss Sybil Case in March or April 1783 and had 9 children. In 1818 they sold their property in Granby, CT and moved to Andover, Ohio.

He died in Andover on June 22 1841.
