Johannes was born, in 25 December 1752 at Stouchsburg, Berks County, Pa. He is the son of Johan Peter Stein and Anna Catharine nee Anspach. He was baptized at Christ Evangelical Church, Stouchsburg, Berks County, on Christmas Day, 25 December 1752. His sponsors were Johannes Spycker and his wife.

Johannes father, Peter was born 15 April 1723 in Birkenfeld Rheinland-Pfatz, and came to Philadelphia on 5 September 1748 on board the ship “Edinburg”.
Johannes mother, Anna Catharina Anspach, was born 27 December 1727 in Tulpehocken Township, Lancaster County now Berks.

Johannes married his first wife, Catharine Brossman on 7 December 1779 at Stouchsburg, Berks County and had had 10 children, their names being, Peter, Susanna, John, Catharine, Maria Elisabeth, Anne Margreth, Wilhelm Brossman, Benjamin, Adam and Barbara Stein. His wife Catharine died 11 February 1798, and was buried at Stouchburg.

Johannes married his second wife, my line) Marie Christina Lennig was the daughter of Barbara? And Johann Thomas Lenich, who was born 18 March 1721 in Germany and came Philadelphia on 24 September 1753 on board the ship “Neptune”.

Johannes and Marie Christina were married on 2 January 1799, at Christ Evangelical Church, Stouchburg. They had 4 children together, their names being, Christina, Sarah Philip and Eva.

17 April 1777, served under Colonel Henry Spycker, 6th Battalion, 5th Company, Tulpehocken, listed as John Stone, Court Martial Man.

In 14 July 1777, Johannes Stein takes the Oath of Allegiance at Tulpehocken, others taking the Col. Henry, Benjamin Spycker, Col. Christian Lower, the Ansbach, Reiths, Zeller, Seibert, Bressler, Weaver, they are all listed in the 6th Battalion as officers.

In 1801, Johannes purchased a doubled lot home, number 63 in Womelsdorf Town, in Heidelberg Township, Berks County.

He died 4 June 1810, leaving his estate to his wife Christina, and after her death the estate is to be divided 12 ways among the children. Christina died 29 Jan 1819, and was buried along side of each other at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery (aka Long’s Cemetery), Stouchsburg, Marion Township, Berks County, Pa.
