John Stuchell was born in Germany about 1745. He was married to Catharina Maria Leidig (Lydick) in 1769 in York County, Pennsylvania. They were the parents of the following children: Anna Maria, Abraham, Elizabeth, Christopher, Sarah, Jacob, and Catherine.
Baptism records at St. John's Lutheran Church located about one mile west of LIttlestown, York (now Adams) County, Pennsylvania. reflect the baptism of Anna Maria, daughter of Johannes and Catharina Stutzel on December 10, 1770. Westmoreland County Church records recorded at Siwickle Settlement by Balthauser Meyer: Entry number 23 in the records of Harrold's Lutheran Church, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania indicate that Abraham Stutzell was born September 18, 1772, the son of Johannes and Catharina Stutzell, and baptized on May 16, 1773. Record number 80 indicates that Elizabeth, daughter of Johannes and Christina Stutzel was born February 14, 1775, and baptized on April 9, 1775. Entry 158 reads that John Christian was born June 12, 1777 and baptized August 3, 1777. Recorded at Sewickley by Johann Wilhelm Weber, who served congregations at Harold, Brush Creek, Ridge (St.Paul's) and Pittsburgh. Entry number 194, Jacob born December 20, 1783 to Johannes and Catherina Stuttzel, baptized March 7, 1784, sponsored by Jacob and Julianna Leydig.
During the Revolutionary War, September 28, 1776, Pennsylvania's constitution went into force, mandating that all males over the age of 18 must take an "Oath of Fidelity" to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. John Stachal took the oath of allegiance on October 14, 1777, before Hugh Martin, a Justice of the Peace of Westmoreland.
John Stuchell served in the Westmoreland County Rangers as a private in the Troop Light Horse Company. Between 1778 and 1783, he served on the frontier and qualified for depreciation pay.
He came to what is now Indiana County, Pennsylvania in 1785, with his family of seven children. He and his wife both died on the farm which they first settled, located on what was then known as McHenry run, and joined the McKee farm, after which this run was named in after years, and it is now known as McKee run.

Elizabeth Stuchell; born 14 Feb 1775; James McHenry. 4. Christopher (John Christian) Stuchell, born 12 Jun 177; married Elizabeth Lydick. 5. Sarah Stuchell, born abt.1781; married ? Fulton. 6. Jacob Stuchell, born 20 Dec 1783; married Margaret Fairman. 7. Catherine Stuchell, born abt. 1785; married John Caldwell.
