Nathaniel Newman Hylton 2nd born generation in America. Was born in King and Queen County Virginia British Colony in 1744. Died 1838 Patrick County, Virginia United States of America. He was the tenth child born to parents George Hylton Sr. and Esther or Hester. Nathaniel married Elizabeth Wade about 1773 in or near Bedford County, Virginia. Nathaniel and Elizabeth were parents to nine other children.
On 25 Oct 1769 Nathaniel Numan Hylton lived In Bedford County, Virginia, and received 200 acres In Bedford County, Virginia Deed Book 3, page 354.
1794 April Nathaniel served on Patrick County Jury.
13 February 1816 Newman Helton deed to Edward Helton and George Helton 250 acres on the head of Smith River, Patrick County, DEED Book 4, page 213. Nathaniel Newman Hylton was listed In Bedford. Henry and Campbell Counties Virginia. Nathaniel Newman Hylton enlisted In Capt. William Callaway Company of Bedford County, Virginia in 1780. Bedford County is now Campbell County. He took the Oath of Allegiance in Bedford, Virginia 9 August 1779. He served for two years as a Private with duties as a Minute Man, Guard, and Livestock Wrangler. He was marched to Appomattox River at the house of Brambos and remained there for three days. Then marched to Molly Creek remaining there for several weeks. Receiving information that Col. Tarleton was not marching towards them as anticipated (June 1781) he was marched by Lieutenant John Legg to Buford Gap (Montvale Virginia) to repel Incursions of Tories from Great Basin on the West of mountains and so Immediately Headquartered at New London (Campbell County, Virginia) with duties as a Magazine Guard as a Minute Man under Col. Charles Lynch and Capt. Jerry (Jeremiah} Early. In the company of Capt. John Callaway occasionally made excursions against Tories and to prevent insurrection of the Negroes In surrounding counties. While there he guarded Capt. Guthridge, a notorious traitor, was captured below Williamsburg, Virginia, and brought to New London so that British forces could not rescue him. He witnessed General Abraham Buford's unit march South to Waxhaws, SC. and defeat on 29 MAY 1780. In excursions from garrison In New London, he marched through Pittsylvannla and Halifax
Counties to the Mouth of Horse Pasture In Henry County, Virginia under Capt. Thomas Henderson.
1820 Nathaniel Newman Hylton is listed as a resident In the Census Report for Patrick County, Virginia.
Due to his duties was never in battle but was confined to his principal duties In Garrison New London, Virginia.
Hilton could be spelled with e or y. Spelling Rule I before E and sometime Y. Original Spelling was HYLTON from Baron Hylton, Castle, Durham England.
