Joseph Alderman Jr. was born on 25 May 1725 in Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut. 

He served as an Ensign with Connecticut in the Revolutionary War and gave other Public Service. 

He married Keziah Holcomb on 13 November 1745 in Simsbury. She was born on 3 April 1728 and died on 24 April 1810. Among their known children were: 

  • Keziah was born on 9 March 1746 and married Ebenezer Comes.
  • Joseph was born on 4 June 1747 and died the same day.
  • Zipporah was born on 20 February 1755 and married Elijah Hill.
  • Dorcus was born on 13 February 1757 and married her cousin Elijah Alderman.
  • Joseph [2] was born on 25 December 1758 and married his cousin Rosina Alderman.
  • Timothy was born in about 1764 and married Tabitha Phelps.

The Patriot died on 15 December 1806 in Winsor Mills, Ohio, and was buried at Windsor Mills Cemetery, Ashtabula County, Ohio.
