Johann Georg Aumiller was the 6thgreat grandfather of Compatriot Lance Gregory Rose, DMD. Johann Georg Aumiller (Owmiller), SAR P-332750, served in the Revolutionary War in 1781, at the age of 50. He served as a Private in the York County Militia from 16 July 1781 thru 16 September 1781 under the command of Captain Abraham Furrey “… guarding the British Convention Prisoners...” at the Revolutionary War POW facility named Camp Security in York County, Pennsylvania. He is listed on Captain Abraham Furrey's payroll roster for the period: 16 July 1781 thru 16 September 1781. Pennsylvania Archives, Sixth Series, Volume II, pages 629-631. George Aumiller (Amiller) is also recorded as having served the following year with the York County Militia from 24 August 1782 thru 24 October 1782 as a Private under the command of Captain Thomas Clingan during his mission against the Indians to Fort Pitt in Western Pennsylvania. Private George Amiller (Aumiller) is found on the payroll roster for the period: 24 August 1782 thru 24 October 1782.Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume IV, page 461,475.
Interestingly, it has been established that the men serving in the Militia were to include all…” male white persons except such as is not fit for militia duty by reason of disability of body belonging… to the York County Militia, between the age of 18 and 53 years, each man in his proper class.” Pennsylvania Archives, Sixth Series, Volume II, page 444.)
Johann Georg Aumiller, was: a son of Johann Conrad Aumiller; a brother to Philip Conrad Aumiller DAR A134068 and Johannes Aumiller DAR A003766.
Johann Georg Aumiller (commonly referred to by his secular name George, as was the European practice) was born 21 June 1731 in Hanau, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, in Hesse, Germanyand came to the American colonies prior to the Revolutionary War with several of his brothers and parents, all of whom were born in Germany before they immigrated. There are many variations of the Aumiller name, which is also recorded as Aumuller, Aumueller, Awmiller, Amiller, Owmiller, Oumiller, Omiller, and O’Miller etc.
George Aumiller died in 1802. A record of his Last Will and Testament is found in the Shenandoah County Abstracts of Wills: 1772-1850 by Amelia Gilreath. The will was found in Will Book F, page 64 and was dated 15 March 1802 and signed by George Aumiller, himself. The will abstract lists: George Aumiller: Parish of Beckford Shenandoah County Wife: Mary Aumiller; Son: Henry Aumiller; Daughter: Mary Aumiller; Daughter: Eave Catharena Aumiller; Executrix: Wife, Mary; Witness: Conrad Lickliter, John Smith and Adam Lickliter Date: Mar. 15, 1802; proved: Jan. 10, 1803.
