Signer of the General Association Test, Haverstraw Precinct, NY, adopted April 29, 1775

Born: 30 Jan 1714 Greenbush, NY Son of Gerrit Lambertse Smith and Brechje Peterse Haring. Baptized: 22 Jun 1714 Tappan, Orange, NY. Died: After 1787
Married 1st Cathlyntje Stephens Children: Garret L., Maria, Stephen L., Peter L.
Married: 2nd Annatje Hopper Children: Cathlyntje, Arie L.
Removed to Clarkstown, Orange, NY perhaps at the time of his marriage as the Stephens family lived there. He and his wife became members of the Clarkstown DRC in 1753 where he served as deacon 1753-4. Assessed in the Clarkstown tax-list of 1787 for 64/0/0 real estate and 20/0/0 personal estate. His name does not appear on the 1790 census as he may have died before that time.
Revolutionary War Service: Signed the New York Test of the Association in Haverstraw District, 1775. His name does not appear on the Muster roles of the revolutionary period probably because of his age.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
