Peter Feigley/Fegley was born about 1758 at Frederick County, Maryland. Peter Feigley entered the service as a Private in the Summer of 1775 in Captain Hartman’s Company in the regiment commanded by Coloney Shryock of the Maryland Troops. At that time, he was a resident of Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. Peter also served as a substitute for a Mr. Glassbrenner, who had been drafted. He was then under the command of Captain Swingly. He subsequently served at Fort Frederick, Maryland under command of Captain Ridenour and Colonel Rawlings in the capacity of guarding British prisoners, and was in this position at the time British General Cornwallis was imprisoned. He married Catherine Flowd May 23, 1779 at Hagarstown, Washington County, Maryland. Peter and Catherine were the parents of seven known children: John (born March 20, 1780), Henry (born December 5, 1783), Peter (born September 7, 1785), Elizabeth (born about 1790), Anna Maria (born July 20, 1793), Samuel (born January 25, 1796), and Jonathan (born September 24, 1797). Peter Feigley/Fegley died January 16, 1845 at Washington County, Maryland and was laid to rest at the Rose Hill Cemetery, also known as Old Saint John’s Lutheran, at Hagerstown, Maryland.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
