Peter was born in Bristol Parish, Virginia. He migrated west with his family through Lunenburg County where he was appointed Constable in 1755. On May 14, 1782 Peter furnished 475 pounds of beef for the Continental Army. In 1784 he also furnished four barrels of corn for the wide of a poor Continental soldier, William LeNave. Peter, known as "Land Grant Peter" owned many tracts of land along Aaron's Creek (county line between Mecklenburg County and Halifax County) throughout the years.
Cemetery notes: Non-Cemetery Burial, Specifically: Buried on his plantation, north of Highway 58 at Arron’s Creek, Virginia, close to where his land joined the west side of Arron’s Creek.

Peter Overby Sr. was born 30 Jul 1727 in Bristol Parish, Brunswick,VA to Peter & Ann Overby. About 1760, he married Sylvania Ann Vaughan and they had 6 children.
In1748 he received his 2nd land grant from King George II-182 AC. for 20 shillings.This was in Lunenburg (later Mecklenburg) Co., VA on both sides of the north fork of Tenayhomoney Creek(later Aaron's Creek) on the south side of the Dan River.
He was on the Tithe List in 1750 in Lunenburg Co. In 1779, he bought 182 Ac. from Nicholas Overbey.
His contribution to the American Revolution was on 14 May 1782 when he furnished 475 cwt. of beef for Continental Army use.
He prepared his Will on 22 Jun 1812 in Mecklenburg Co., VA and died 17 Jan 1814 in Clarksville.Mecklenburg, Virginia. When his Will was probated he owned 23 slaves & personal property valued at 21,000 English pounds, in addition to the real estate

Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
