Born 06 Jun 1757, Clarkstown, Orange, NY Son of Dirck Vanderbilt and Margaret Hoogland. Married Catharina Vredenburgh 24 or 26 December 1781, Orange Co., NY.
Children: Margaret, Isaac Vredenburg, Mariah Hoogland, John C., Richard, and William. Died 07 Nov 1827, Rockland Co., NY
Revolutionary War Service: Enlisted in 1776 as a Private in Capt. Hendrick Tenure’s Company, Col. Ann Hawk Hay’s 2nd Regiment in the Orange County, NY, Militia. Served from July to November in 1776 guarding the Hudson River at the town of Nyack to prevent the British from landing to forage. Between 1777 and 1782 served week long tours guarding various sections of the Hudson River. In 1777, he served 4 ½ months, 3 months under Capt. Robert Johnson in A. Hawke Hay’s Regiment. In 1778 he served 2 months, 1779 2 months, 1780 2 months, 1781 2 months, and 1782 1 month. He was discharged verbally.
Pension 10838 filed by his widow in 1837. Claim never allowed on account of the claimant’s inability to comply with all the requirements of the pension laws under which she applied.

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
