Spencer LEHEW SR
Born 1730 Died Nov 22 1802 He was a signer of the Dissenters Religious Petition. He died at Orchard Meadows, Fredericks County Virginia and was probably buried on the family estate but there is no record of exactly where his burial took place LAND; The first time Spencer Lehew appears in the Frederick County record is in 1754 when he was a witness to the deed for his father's first land purchase. His name also appears on the personal tax records of Frederick County from 1782 to 1801 when "Widow" Lehew appears instead. His death date of 22 November 1802 is recorded in family Bible. His widow is listed on the 1810 Frederick County census as: "one white male 16-26; one white female 16-26; two white females 26-45 or over"Copy of his will: Frederick County, Virginia in possession of Kenneth D. Roberts... other information from Robert L Holland..4028 St Rt 13 SE Crooksville, OH 43731
!MILITARY: in 1758 Spencer Lehew belonged to the company of Joseph Bowman and was fined ten shillings for absenting himself from general muster.
Centennial edition of the DAR Patriot Index: Part 2, Page 1777: "Spencer Lehew b _ _ _ Virginia died February 1, 1803 in Virginia Married Nancy _ _; Service: PS (Patriotic Service) Virginia" WILL: Copy of will in possession of Kenneth D. Roberts, lists wife Nancy and following children as heirs: John Lehew, Mary PumRoye, Moses Lehew, Spencer Lehew, William Lehew, Nancy Lehew, Elizabeth Lehew, Evia Vannort, Rebecca Lehew, Rachel Wiley. It is apparent that the children listed in the will are NOT listed in order of birth.
!WILL: Frederick County, Virginia "Wills & Administrations 1795-1816" compiled by M,N, Kangas & D.E. Payne published in Baltimore by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. 1983 page 50 states : "LEHEU, Spencer Sr. Will. 16 Sep 1802/ 1 Feb 1803 Children: John, Moses, Spencer, Jr., William, Mary, Pomeroy, Nancy Leheu, Elizabeth, Edia Vennoort, Rebecca Leheu, Rachel Wiley. To son John and daughter Mary Pomeroy, land in Blue Ridge; to sonMoses, 15 pounds; to Spencer, Jr., the place I now live on; to son William, balance of plantation; to daughters Nancy, Elizabeth, Edia and Rebecca, each 25 pounds, Rebecca's money to be put at trust until she becomes of age; to Rachel Wiley, 6pounds. Exr: son Spencer Leheu Wit: William Carnavan, William Vanourt, Jr. p 96-98"
