Author: Jesse McIntyre III
Peter Witmer (or Whitmore) was born 1737 in Hertzheim, Prussia. He immigrated to Pennsylvania aboard the ship “Restoration” arriving in Philadelphia on 9 October 1747.

He married Sarah Maria Sallome Schuett in Saint Michael’s and Zion Church in Philadelphia on 7 October 1757. Their marriage is blessed with nine children.

In 1779, He enlisted in Captain John Molls Company, Northumberland County Militia, serving as a Ranger on the Pennsylvania frontier. Peter’s son, John Peter Witmer, served as a Matross (Private) in the Pennsylvania Line, Independent Company of Artillery from 1777-1780.

Peter passed on 3 August 1793 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania and is buried in Rocky Spring Churchyard near Chambersburg.
