Comments:

His name appears on a bronze plaque that displays the names of the people who were buried under the addition to the church in the early 1900s. A parking lot and the building addition are now where the 'Old Burying Ground' was. The Old Burying Ground was shared with Emmanuel Lutheran Church on the other end of the block. It is visible in the first picture. That church also has a plaque with the names of those buried under the addition to their church.

Directions to Cemetery / Gravesite:

Author: Eric H. Troutman

Andreas Schoener was born on 31 July 1749 in New Hanover Township, Philadelphia County (now Montgomery County), Pennsylvania, the son of Johann Melchior and Anna Maria (Geiger) Schoner. The family originated from Ehrstadt, North Kraichgau, Germany, and with their younger children, arrived in Philadelphia on 21 September 1742 aboard the ship Francis & Elizabeth. The family settled in New Hanover Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, where Andreas was born.

Andreas married Julianna Reifschneider (1749-1830) on 21 May 1771 (New Hanover Lutheran Church Records). Andreas was the father of eight known children: Jacob, Johann George, Henry, Catharina, Christina, Andreas, Christopher, and John. The children were all born in the Douglass Township, Pottstown area of what is now Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Andreas may have been in the iron foundry and blacksmithing industry since some of his sons and grandsons worked in that trade.

During the Revolutionary War, Andreas Schoener served as a private in the 4th Battalion, 7th Company under Captain Jacob Witz, Philadelphia County Militia. He also paid the Supply Tax in Douglass Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

Andreas Schoener died on 10 May 1806 in Douglass Twp., Montgomery County, PA. He and his wife are buried at the Old Brick Union Church (aka Zion Reformed Church) Cemetery, Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!

Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
