Valentine Unruh was born in Germany in 1710. He was the son of Hans Adam & Maria Catharina Unruh. He was baptized August 17, 1710 (records – Niederhochstadt, Reformed Church). Valentine Unruh arrived at the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania aboard the ship St. Andrew on September 12, 1734. He is next found residing in the Tulpehocken area of Lancaster County (now Berks County), PA before February of 1743.

Valentine Unruh was married to Maria Catharine *****, and they were the parents of five children: Maria Catharina, Adam, Johannes, George, and Anna Elizabeth. He was one of the founders of St. John’s Host German Reformed Church, Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County. PA. Valentine Unruh was a yeoman/farmer his entire life. He died in the early part of 1788 at his homestead in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, PA and was buried at the St. John’s Host Church Cemetery, Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, PA. Valentine wrote his will on June 13, 1783, and it was probated April 25, 1788

Valentine Unruh took the Oath of Allegiance (Oath of Fidelity) to the state of Pennsylvania, in Berks County, PA on November 27, 1777. He also paid the Supply Tax in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, PA in 1779 and 1780.
