Johann Niklas / Nicholas Kintzer was born in 1715 in Assweiler bei Nohfelden, Germany, the son of Johann Bernhard & Anna Catharine (Seiberth) Cuntzer. The time of his arrival in Pennsylvania is not known at this time.
On 3 January 1742, at Quittapahilla, (now Lebanon County), Pennsylvania he was married to Anna Catara Hoester. They were the parents of one daughter Catharina.
After the death of Anna Cattara (probably in childbirth), Nicholas was married on 20 October 1743, at Tulpehocken to Anna Amelia Juliana Schneider daughter of Abraham & Anna Catharine (Simon) Schneider. Both of Nicholas’s marriages were performed by Reverand John Casper Stoever, one of the earliest German Lutheran pastors in Pennsylvania, having been ordained in Germany.
Nicholas Kintzer and his second wife were the parents of five children:
Juliana.
Anna Catharina.
Johann Jacob.
Anna Elizabeth.
Maria Margaretha.
The children were all born in what is now Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Nicholas was a farmer his entire life, residing in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Nicholas Kintzer took the Oath of Allegiance on 1 July 1777, in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
He died on 20 January 1794, in Tulpehocken Township, probably on his homestead, where he had spent his lifetime clearing the land so future generations could follow as “tillers of the land.” Nicholas Kintzer and his second wife are probably buried at St. John’s Host Church, Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, Pennsylvania, however, there is no documentation to prove this.
Send a biographical sketch of your patriot!
Patriot biographies must be the original work of the author, and work submitted must not belong to another person or group, in observance with copyright law. Patriot biographies are to be written in complete sentences, follow the established rules of grammar, syntax and punctuation, be free of typographical errors, and follow a narrative format. The narrative should unfold in a logical manner (e.g. the narrative does not jump from time period to time period) or have repeated digressions, or tell the history of the patriot's line from the patriot ancestor to the author. The thinking here is that this is a patriot biography, not a lineage report or a kinship determination project or other report published in a genealogy journal. The biography should discuss the qualifying service (military, patriotic, civil) of the patriot ancestor, where the service was rendered, whether this was a specific state or Continental service, as well as significant events (as determined by the author) of the patriot's life. This is the entire purpose of a patriot's biography.
